African Discovery Through Music
This is a series of live musical stage plays narrated by a dramatic storyteller/ professional singer. These shows depict how Africans and African Americans demonstrated courage and perseverance to overcome obstacles and change American society.

Length: 50 min

BLACK WAX
A trip to the Black Wax Museum reveals African American inventors, a break in major league baseball, a daring escape on the Underground Railroad and women musicians ahead of their time!

 

 

LINEAGE
Sing and dance your way from Africa to America in Lineage where blues, jazz, gospel, rhythm and blues, and hip hop music are combined in a lesson that is so much fun you won’t want it to end! E.D. Nixon, Captain Charles Young, Sergeant Ben Davis and Elizabeth Martinez are the historical figures celebrated in the show about a woman takes a surprising look at how much she has in common with people of various cultures.

 

 

NEIGHBORHOOD PROMISE
Promise celebrates the anniversaries of the Brown vs. Board of Education decision and Motown Records. The program is infused with the soulful music of the 1960s and important lessons about the value of education.
 

Hispanic Discovery Assembly
Increase the awareness and bring the wonder of Hispanic heritage to your students with a musical tour through Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic! Learn of the contributions of Hispanic people to music, science and the world in which we live today!

THE LESSON LEARNED
After learning that the first nationally syndicated Hispanic talk show host was no honor student and that the first female surgeon general was Puerto Rican, Jose discovers that he, too, can overcome adversity and pursue any career he chooses. Meet Geraldo Rivera, Celia Cruz and Antonia Novello.

Georgia, an educated southern belle travels north to learn a life-changing lesson about Marie Gertrude Rand, Wilma Rudolph and Clara Barton as this live band and dynamic cast of actors herald women’s contributions to engineering, sports and the military!

Artist-In-Residence

A performing arts residency can change the atmosphere at your school! Artists are available to visit your classroom for 10 sessions at 45 minutes each. These artist sessions meet the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content standards because the lessons help students acquire knowledge and skills that increase aesthetic awareness. Residencies are available in acting, music and dance.
